8ch Attention-Hungry Games 75

Last Round: >>95687

Archive of Past Rounds: https://mega.nz/#F!BA8V0KYD!eRw01c3zLKSa3wzSEHE00g (Updated to Round 66.)

Hello /sudo/. A long time ago, CodeMonkey wanted to try a Hunger Games event for advertising boards using the global announcement feature.

For the 8chan Attention-Hungry Games, any board with less than 300 users can nominate themselves to participate, with up to 48 boards being able to participate (or we can go to 24 or 36 if we don't get enough boards). These 48 or so boards compete on a Hunger Games simulator hosted on BrantSteele. The current code for the regular events as of this writing is at http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=Hpc3n3RO which is based off of http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=FlMMyAqW.

The Mansion code that I used once but regretted using afterwards is at http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=9nWM8wfc from >>>/hungergames/17115

Anyway, the winner gets to be advertised as a global announcement for about a week.

As for the requirements for signing up:

1. No boards that promote raiding other 8chan boards.

2. Must have less than 300 active users at the start of the game.

3. Can't have won the hunger games in the past round. Last round's winner is >>>/nofap/

4. Need to submit a SFW sentence that advertises their board that CodeMonkey can put in the global announcement. (NSFW boards are welcome to join, but the announcement should be SFW). Failure to do so will result in anons deciding your sentence via dubs, usually to your detriment. CodeMonkey will be the one to determine what is and what isn't SFW as he controls the global announcements.

5. It is recommended you post a picture with your nomination, and that picture should be square as it will be stretched otherwise. I will determine the gender of you tribute based on the picture. If I can't tell, I am defaulting to M. Also, MLP images will be ignored unless it came from a MLP board, if the BO approves of it, or from a certain image for /suicide/ until their BO says otherwise as they had that certain image before I added this part of the rule.

6. If a BO of a board does not want to participate, please don't nominate it. Board Owners, if you don't want to participate but someone nominated you, please let me know before the start of the round IN THIS THREAD and I will remove it from the list. As of now, /miku/, /jp/, and /islam/ have asked not to participate.

7. Nominate only 1 board per IP hash per post. For posts that nominate more than 1 board and an IP hash nominating multiple boards, I will take the first board and ignore the rest, and I will know if you are samefagging. For those with VPNs, note that someone may be using the same VPN as you when nominating, which means they may have the same IP Hash and I can't distinguish VPN users from normal ones.

8. Once a round concludes, please wait until the next thread is created before you nominate a board.

The next round will likely start Monday somewhere between 9am and 11am ET. However, I also realized I have Monday night off, so I can potentially run this Tuesday night if I need to.

With that all being said, nominate your boards now and suggest some events for either code if you want (or even better, put your events into the mansion code since I won't mind people messing with that code. Just let me know if you do update it). Also, if I missed anything, let me know so I can correct the OP for next time.

Sunlight on Sunshine

About Sunshine

Earlier, Sunshine came to my attention again after the source code for it was posted on freech's /intb/ board (https://archive.is/6sPs7#selection-2161.0-2205.53). Since users were concerned about it, I investigated the Sunshine code and looked back through my logs to figure out exactly when it was created, why it was created, for what purpose, and exactly what it does.

When?

Sunshine was created on October 9, 2015.

Why?

On October 8, 2015, the 8chan Administrator (who, at the time, was Hotwheels) received an email from the American authorities, who were concerned about a post on 8chan threatening an attack against a school in the Houston area (http://archive.is/lVsJe). Because of their incompetence, the 8chan Admin received a scanned picture of a photocopy of a printed 8chan post (pic related). The post in the picture (dated October 1, 2015) indeed contained a threat against a school in the Houston area, but due to the bureaucracy of the authorities, it arrived approximately a week too late and the original post had already been deleted.

Purpose

Sunshine was created by Hotwheels on October 9, 2015 after we discussed a way to make sure kids didn't get killed. It was meant to help prevent potential school shootings in the future if the shooter(s) happened to post specific threats on 8chan (i.e., bomb threats, shootings, etc.). Sunshine was neither an imposition nor a request by third parties. The pros of Sunshine were believed to outweigh the cons.

What Does It Do?

Sunshine takes the IP address and message of a poster, pads it with a few bytes of junk data, encrypts it using a RSA pub key, then stores the encrypted data. This data remains in encrypted form with decryption only possible by Hotwheels. With the way it is set up, nobody will be able to read anything on the Sunshine database unless they get access to Hotwheels' laptop.

Sunshine Security

When creating Sunshine, Hotwheels used a 2048-bit RSA public/private key pair with the openssl_private_decrypt() and openssl_public_encrypt() functions. The public key was stored on the server as sunshine.pem and the private key was stored on Hotwheels' laptop offsite - precisely because Hotwheels thought 8chan could be hacked one day (it was and here we are). Hotwheels told me which folder the key was in on his laptop in case he ever suddenly died and I needed to use Sunshine.

When Was It Used?

8chan gets around half a dozen requests per year from the authorities, mostly because of threats. Usually the authorities are quick and the data is still on the boards. According to my records, Sunshine was successfully used exactly once to help the Australian authorities.

How Long Was Sunshine Active?

Sunshine ran from its inception until early 2016, a period of turmoil for 8chan. During the Great Posting Crisis, it was culled to gain performance and improve posting. Sunshine was re-enabled in September 2016 and remained active until April 1, 2017. Sunshine is now disabled and will remain disabled on 8chan.

The Way Forward

I will be open-sourcing 8chan again and Sunshine will be included as a commit with instructions for any future imageboard admins who might want to use it. I have since asked Hotwheels to destroy the Sunshine private key and, on April 4, 2017 at exactly 09:56am GMT, Hotwheels destroyed it, thus ensuring Sunshine can never be unencrypted.

Of course, I have chat logs and emails to back this up, which is why I am able to give you so many details on such short notice.

Now that this is out of the way, I have mod.php to fix, boards to restore, and a website to run.

By recently allowing many threads of a family member of a government official and the related government official violating many US statues under the assumption that /agatha/ was taken by that family member.

He has allowed threads with posters discussing posting, requesting, and linking to content that is illegal in the United States of America as the Global rule disallows for lengthy periods of time.

http://archive.is/nG8uz

This is just one archived thread containing deleted child pornography and spoilered child pornography having all the other violations of the Global rule in place.

There are many images and Megas that me and others have reported that do not pass http://oxwugzccvk3dk6tj.onion/dost.html and have not been removed. Mega has been more cooperative in complying with their own rules being consistent taking down Megas reported.

The /agatha2/ Admin allow names up of sites hosting child pornography in multiple threads. If the board continues to become popular, then 8chan will be more known for this like Reddit was with /r/jailbait dismissing its credibility. The problem on /agatha2/ has occurred since its inception and you can still find many images failing to past http://oxwugzccvk3dk6tj.onion/dost.html since the early threads.

Obnoxious /pol/ Board Setting

Whoever /pol/ BO Permissions, Please Uncheck This Box

Why should reposting files be prohibited on /pol/, a 25 page board of 751 reply threads where files are likely to be posted multiple times? I could see the argument for prohibiting reposting files within a given thread, there's a separate checkbox for that, but having this particular box checked is nothing but a massive nuisance for everybody.

Possible pedo board

I noticed a board called /wboy/ popping up recently. The board is mostly random links to YT videos with vague titles. I've seen pedo communities before, and this exact format is very common for them. They blanket dump links and never explicitly say anything, but the sticky makes it very clear this is what the board is for with the line "DO NOT post 3D shota or other anime, there are already threads for that (/ss/ and /oneshota/)".

The videos themselves are random clips of young boys in media, some being arguably sexual such as a video of an older woman twerking in front of a child. This board clearly violates Dost and should dealt with the same as any other pedo board.

Video completely unrelated.

Mods on /pol/ are bending the rules to ban anything they don't like

Moderators are doing creative interpretation of the rules to declare normalposting behavior as "spam" so they can mass-delete and ban everyone they don't like. I believe a mod that is either a Muslim mad I've been exposing him or a Pagan who has mistaken me as a Christian has banned me purely because they hate Christians.

I had over a thousand posts all over /pol/ and several big threads up with many thousands of replies from various anons. I am a big contributor to the board. I've been posting a LOT all day every day for the last week or so. All of this was lost because some asshole did a delete by IP of all my posts on the board and ban. Some asshole who couldn't even bother to check my post history.

I happened to cite 5 different passages in the Bible over a period of several hours, interspersed between lots of other posts made in multiple threads, and this was deemed "spam". Not a single thing was posted twice, nor were posts made in rapid succession. Not even by a wild stretch of the imagination can you call this "spam".

I have recorded with OBS the thread in which my post that was deemed "spam" and which led to all this heavyhanded persecution by the /pol/ mods. The way they are interpreting things as "spam" right now literally all of /pol/ can be deemed spam and everybody could be reported and banned right now, if they are going to be consistent in how they are currently enforcing the rules, which I believe they won't be as they will simply ignore actual spam when they want to, and randomly ban people that offend them by wrongly calling it "spam" when it's not.

They also are pretending that the natural flow of conversation where people talk about one thing and one thing leads to another in threads is the same as intentional thread derailment and pretending like they don't know the difference. Again, by this interpretation, literally everyone on /pol/ can be reported for "thread derailment" and be banned and have all their posts deleted.

This is absolute bullshit and the mods need to have some sense talked into them or else be removed and replaced by mods that aren't retarded and can fairly and without heavy-handedness moderate the board. The way they are behaving they are persecuting normal posters and encouraging backlash and outrage from the actual /pol/acks on the board. This is wrong and needs to be amended.

Here is a recording of my thread which had the post in it that was cited as "spam" and then deleted: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFF6V_nsxSE

As you can observe from the timestamps and from just looking at the thread, there is no actual spam there, and the thread structure is normal and organic. People are having actual discussions and talking about /pol/ things. One user claimed Christianity was "marxist" and I responded with a few posts saying it was monarchist and over a period of hours posted 5 excerpts I found in the Bible by actually spending the time reading it and going through it and then sharing it in the thread. All my excerpts are to show that Christianity is Monarchist. Nobody is having an issue with this too but then suddenly some mod just deletes the whole fucking thread and indeed all of my threads and posts and it's all lost.

The initial ban and deletion of all my posts is not justified and the way mods are interpreting the rules >>>/pol/13145484 is fucked up.

I will be sending an email to admin@8ch.net about this as well.

Please add .txt as an uploadable format

I remember when ProgrammingApe made a thread on the inclusion of .txt files as an uploadable format. I remember when all the assholes came out of the woodwork and said such intelligent posts as

>"are you fucking retarded?"

>"this is stupid, why would anyone do that?"

>"what a dumb idea"

It's silly, it's like your being offered free fucking food and those posters were up in arms because it's apples. As a writefag, having a place where I can post plaintext files, not have to link to some dumb, third party website, even if it's just (X)bin, a fanfiction site, or whatnot is nice and convienient.

Sure, those platforms may be good for those who are looking for a long-term staying, but there's no guarantee that it will actually stay there. Who knows if that story, or information triggers some SJW or high-and-mighty narcissist that contacts the site to get it taken down? Allowing hostable .txt files keeps the information local, keeps the triggered at bay, and allows you to get your content to your audience.

Furthermore, what about logs? or files that have a lot of lines when someone needs to comb through something? dumping text into a bunch of posts is cumbersome, time consuming, and detrimental to board flow. A text file keeps things neat and concise. If someone wants to dump an IRC chatroom's dirty laundry, .txt files would be the perfect solution to high-speed low drag with a thousand lines. Furthermore, as pic related shows, text files are vastly smaller than images, and especially giant, cumbersome PDF files.

Please bring back .txt uploading as you wanted to do last time, codemonkey.

8ch Attention-Hungry Games 74

Last Round: >>94969

Archive of Past Rounds: https://mega.nz/#F!BA8V0KYD!eRw01c3zLKSa3wzSEHE00g (Updated to Round 66.)

Hello /sudo/. A long time ago, CodeMonkey wanted to try a Hunger Games event for advertising boards using the global announcement feature. I will run this weekend despite being late thanks to getting sick from some retard at work coughing on everything. Also, I need to update the OP thanks to stuff.

The current code for the regular events as of this writing is at http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=6N3o5Thw which is based off of http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=FlMMyAqW.

Last round's winner is >>>/abdl/

With that all being said, nominate your boards now and suggest some events for either code if you want (or even better, put your events into the mansion code since I won't mind people messing with that code. Just let me know if you do update it). Also, if I missed anything, let me know so I can correct the OP for next time.

R: 35 / I: 7 / P: 3 [R] [G] [-]

Can you remove this retarded permaban from my favorite vpn? I can't appeal it because the fag put something retarded in the field.. Thanks in advance.

R: 5 / I: 1 / P: 3 [R] [G] [-]

This doesn't work.

When I set this to 0 it does not disable. It blocks inline loading of images so I have to open them in another tab or put 999999999 into the field to make it stop blocking image loads.

Who is this even for? Mobile fags on limited bandwidth? Let them deal with it then. Keep this nonsense away from desktop users.

Have you taken the brown pill yet, mateys?

it's a tough pill to swallow! The brown pill was founded in 1999 by Sir Reginald Brownpill, who presents and narrates the attached video.

Forget red and blue pills, brown pills are the way of the future.

/hypno/'s catalog is being wiped by a salty tranny spammer from /hypnoanarchy/ and as a vol there's nothing I can do, not even enabling captchas. The BO logs in simply to keep his ownership and recently emailed me about possibly giving me ownership (pic related), but as he's very inactive I doubt anything will happen in time.

I'm requesting either ownership or for the site moderation to enable captchas and any other anti-spam measures as a stopgap until the BO finally shows up again (which may be in several weeks, knowing him).

8ch Attention-Hungry Games 72

Last Round: >>93988

Archive of Past Rounds: https://mega.nz/#F!BA8V0KYD!eRw01c3zLKSa3wzSEHE00g (Updated to Round 66.)

Hello /sudo/. A long time ago, CodeMonkey wanted to try a Hunger Games event for advertising boards using the global announcement feature. Even more slightly less hectic week, even more slightly less late thread.

The current code for the regular events as of this writing is at http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=NzQRWau3 which is based off of http://brantsteele.net/hungergames/r.php?c=FlMMyAqW.

3. Can't have won the hunger games in the past week. Last round's winner is >>>/qq/

Board Owners, if you don't want to participate but someone nominated you, please let me know before the start of the round and I will remove it from the list. As of now, /miku/ and /jp/ have asked not to participate.

With that all being said, nominate your boards now and suggest some events for either code if you want (or even better, put your events into the mansion code since I won't mind people messing with that code. Just let me know if you do update it). Also, if I missed anything, let me know so I can correct the OP for next time.

Hello /sudo/. A long time ago, CodeMonkey wanted to try a Hunger Games event for advertising boards using the global announcement feature. New Thread delay

I have no idea why but there is often a delay in making a new thread. It often takes upwards of 5 minutes for a new thread to be made, and in that time the user is often confused as to if his thread has been made or not.

This error also goes to media posts larger than 1MB.

Assign a board owner to /pol/

Kamphy is gone now and the existing mods cannot keep up with the level of newfag shitposting after the NZ shooting, the posts per hour have doubled. /pol/ needs a new board owner who can appoint more vols to bring the spam under control. The restrictions placed on the current vols cause the level of discussion to be lowered overall and the board can only be improved with new ownership.

Are you satisfied with the current and absolute state of 8chan?

Not me. This place has gone to absolute shit. With bugs and usability problems constantly creeping up, performance issues rendering the entire site basically unusable for large periods of time, and the worst board/mod management where anons can get banned for 12 weeks from a legacy board for posting something that a mormon moderator doesn't like on a Tuesday, I don't even know how this place is still standing… or even why.

This entire site is basically just three boards: /pol/, /v/, and /b/, and each one – /pol/ being the only exception as of now – is run by a megalomanical, ego-driven ass clown that either takes their job too seriously or just fucks with the userbase to make them as miserable as possible. Gookjeetmonkey has had several years to fix the issues with this site, but he dicks around with pointless changes like those you see here in the changelog:

>>40654

Just fucking look at those absolutely useless changes. No one asked for any of it and the fixes we are asking for just get outright ignored. /sudo/ is literally brimming with anons clamoring for positive change, but our please are dismissed as our requests are ever-so-quietly pruned from the catalog.

Fuck this place. I hate Jim and I hate the gookjeet. They are useless vestiges in an online world and they need to be replaced by people who actually know how to admin an anon imageboard.

Individual Embedding

I've asked before, but it's apparently fallen off the board; so here we go again! I'd like the BO to be able to decide on individual embedding. For example: I run a SFW board, so I would like to keep youtube embeds, but disallow pornhub embeds. As it stands now, the choice is either all or none. Obviously, it's not a hugely important issue, but if it can be considered, that would be awesome. If you can't give individual for each allowed site, perhaps you could split between two SFW (youtube, vimeo, etc) and NSFW (redtube, pornhub, etc) options? Thanks!

R: 1 / I: 0 / P: 5 [R] [G] [-]
