/sw/ MB2 GAME NIGHT WEEKLY SIGN-UP

Monday 9pm GMT there will be a Movie Battles II server up for the /SW/ community. Chat, fight, capture objectives and duel on the "Best Star Wars game of all time!".

Movie Battles 2 is a free mod of the game; "Jedi knight: Jedi Academy". It can be downloaded at www.moviebattles.org, it requires a copy of Jedi Academy (JA) to play. You can use the steam version or GOG version of JA. It runs around £7 on steam, but if you can't afford that or simply don't want to give Disney your money the pirated GOG version works just as well (or so I'm told).

Monday 9pm MovieBattles II; /SW/'s server. See you there.

Password will be revealed in this thread 1 hour before startup.

The board for discussing all things Star Wars!

This thread serves as a simple introduction to the board, but can also be used for suggestions, board news or anything you might like to share.

Tips:

• Here are some essentials to getting started on the board and integrating into the community.

1: Check out the board's CyTube channel for live chats and watching SW videos (feel free to edit the playlist if you're registered on the site): https://cytu.be/r/star-wars

2: We have our own Star Wars encyclopedia covering all pre-Disney media, the SW Holonet. Feel free to check it out and contribute: http://swholonet.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Main_Page

3: Don't be afraid to ask for info, sauce or links about SW comics, books, games, etc. We're always happy to share what we know.

4: Learn some freaking Huttese, you scocha kungs.

5: Fair warning. Diehard Disneyfags and Namefags can and will be mocked by the locals.

6: Always check the catalog.

7: Credits are accepted, but truguts are preferred.

The Rules:

• The rules here are simple, we live by and follow the rules and laws of Hutt Space. Which means we barely follow any real rules here. Just don't post CP and keep shit on topic as I don't like banning or deleting shit, unless its necessary, like spam, cp, brownpill shit and raids. Off-topic shit will not be deleted either, but it will be anchored (unless its scifi-related and in relation to us), so just make a meta general for that kind of shit.

Hello all. You might not remember what the Holonet Wiki is, but I was one of the anons involved with the new SW wiki our board was working on a while back. For those of you who need a quick summary, a while back our wiki hit a rather major snag. I found a way to import a large amount of "Legends" wookieepedia content over to our wiki and thus save ourselves from a lot of work, the problem is that the import process could only be done by the owners of our wiki's domain. So I left for quite a spell in hopes of contacting Shoutwiki's staff (our domain owners) and finding some way to import the content. That feels like ages ago now…

So the end result is, I have some bad news gents. I've been trying to contact the staff of Shoutwiki and to find some way to get around the restrictions but have had no luck. Either Shoutwiki doesn't give a shit or its a dying domain. However, during my period of absence as I did my best to collect content from all Legends articles for importing (as well as any pre-2011 content) I've found several alternative wikis. I've long since given up hope on trying to make any progress with Shoutwiki, so to finally get this over with, I was hoping we could continue discussion on all wiki progress here and vote on what to do and which domain to move to.

CODEFAGS WANTED

We're looking at a new possible host, Wikidot. They have everything we need, but in order to import we need to use the API-key and some kind of programming language to set up the automated import (relevant Q/A thread: http://community.wikidot.com/forum/t-10495689/importing-a-new-wiki). Would any anon be willing or able to put such an API together?

Always remember, these antics and pure rhetoric are your primary tools, together with a knowledge of both continuities. Contrary to what some boards would have you believe, infographics are mainly for consolidating a foothold (and only after you're sure you've got one). Also, no sperging out at people. Be as caustic as you like, but the moment you lose composure is the moment you lose the argument to these bottomfeeders.

40k has always been full of cancerous little twerps who shit up everything they touched. If you attended any sort of club you met a lot of those /co/ types. They followed the mainstream like it was their only purpose in life. Bought the latest movies on DVD, watched normie TV and spent a fortune on 40k.

These people aren't foreign elements they're the same piss weak betas who have been around /tg/ shit for decades now. It's the same way most of id software turned into cucks. The libertarianism of most /tg/ communities shifted towards commie as the mainstream started to push equality bullshit which they agreed to on libertarian grounds (they're not smart to figure out the difference).

We're not even in niche groups any more. We simply left and walked away from many communities. Even the niche groups don't like racism or sexism so the old guard get booted the moment they say women don't belong in male communities or you're sick of niggers.

 No.33362

The thing about leftie communist wannabes is that they have a very distorted idea of what communism is. They focus on the muh equality angle to the exclusion of everything else (most of them don't even understand the economics of it) and think that it was some kind of paradise for fags, feminists and degenerates of every kind. When in every communist country under the sun, fags and assorted degenerates like trannies were executed or imprisoned and feminism only extended insofar as women were forced to work. Other than that, they'd be surprised at how traditional many Soviet families were.

True but also false. The USSR revolution flipped status so high was low and low was high. Which gave them a bunch of high status jews to genocide people. This system collapses rapidly because of obvious reasons. To prevent that they reflip the status around to build health families again and gulag all the trouble makers and tranny types. Once their usefulness is over they get rid of them to prevent another revolution.

Well this is highly subjective and depends really on era, but I guess if I must generalize:

<FIGHTER

TIE Hunter - It's basically a TIE Defender-lite that can be produced and maintained in much larger numbers. There's really nothing the Rebel Scum have that can match it, nor anyone for that matter.

<BOMBER

Scimitar Assault Bomber - It was a toss up between this and the Interdictor, with the Scimitar only edging away ahead due to extra survivability, cost and hyperdrive capable. Imperial Bombers in general are quite versatile being able to carry antiwarship, antiground, and even antistarfighter loads. Scimitar takes this to extremes with a huge ass payload.

<ACE

Baron Soonitr Fel. Unlike other aces that typically have the best toys, he didn't. Instead he took a bunch of drunken reprobates using antiques and turned them a top notch fighter squadron. He taught everyone he encounter how to fight and work as a team even enemies. Plus his gene seed formed the basis for the Empire's eventual victory.

<CAPITAL SHIP

Carrack Light Cruiser - This is a tricky segment as there are so many warships that it should be split into more catogories e.g. Corvette, Frigate, Cruiser, Carrier, Battleship etc. If I had to pick one though it would be this thing. Imagine having something loaded to the teeth with Turbolasers and Ion Cannons that is not only surprisingly tough for it's size, but manages to be faster than an X-Wing. Only thing wrong with this ship is that the Empire clearly did not use enough of them and the bridge manages to give the helmsman vertigo seriously, this ship needs a proper redesign

<FLEET

Pentastar Alignment Fleet - Did what the Empire should have been doing, which is create a very versatile fleet optimized to facing the reality of the opponents it will be facing and warfare in general. It also became a highly skilled and professional fleet that only got better over time as retards were killed off. When the Pentastar AlignmPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Something weird that just occurred to me is that tractor beams reduce missile hit rates to almost nothing if deployed in sufficient amounts, which would actually explain why ships predominantly use energy weapons and be another contributor towards short combat ranges because energy weapons are most useful at short range. Telekinesis can also get rid of projectile-related problems, but both TK and tractor beams can still fail against a very high-speed projectile launched at close enough range. I posted briefly about using railguns against lightsaber users in the lightsaber thread, which seems to contradict this at first glance, but combat ranges for ground troops are much shorter than in space. Very few groups or individuals have ever taken advantage of this vulnerability, though. This is probably due to cost reasons.

In a setting with more realism, kinetic weapons would have more power than energy weapons but would obviously have lower ammo supplies unless you have replicators. Even if you have replicators, you still have the problem of that pesky mass-energy equivalence formula making it massively inefficient to use them this way. Any ship that has mostly kinetic weapons would need to win any battle quickly to avoid running out of ammo, but they have the raw damage output to make it happen. Fighters would never have kinetics in any setting advanced enough to use something else because weight and space are at a premium on smaller ships. Only capital ships have the mass budget to afford the use of kinetics. Fighters can replace the main cannons with destructive ion pulse cannons to eliminate the need for separate ion cannons and use the weight savings from getting rid of missiles on better shields, bigger engines, or EW.

 No.33374

>>33372

They don't use projectile weapons mainly due to endurance and storage. You may fuck up one target but will not have anything left over for the next few targets. Also when you got ships like the Dreadnaught requiring crew compliments in the excess of 16,000 where the fuck are you going to store the ammo? Are the men going to wear the ammunition as hats?

 No.33535

>>33372

Well, there is the exception of the Missile Boat for fighters using kinetics. But the boat has to be substantially retooled in an environment with persistent EW, credible point defense and an excess of tractor beams. The boat could replace its missile bays with railguns or some similar weapon. Performing the same replacement of the cannons described above will help the boat out a great deal as well. You could even have Verpine shatter guns instead of railguns or coilguns to make it feel more whiz-bang awesome like the classic sci-fi stories and less "we hard sf now please take us seriously San Fran movie critics!" You can also make up for the loss of missiles on most fighters by employing the Bryar pistol's charge-up function on the cannons. The exception to the no-missile rule is that EW missiles are a thing now in real warfare. Ion pulse warheads were used by some fighters, but never missiles with a full EW setup built in. You can probably just replace the EW fighter idea with EW missiles, but EW missiles have the same vulnerability to anti-missile measures as any other missile.

>>33374

A battle against an enemy fleet large enough to run out a kinetics-using warship's ammo supplies will probably end with your death no matter what your ship has. Finding yourself against such an overpowering enemy fleet would mean a smart captain wouldn't engage to begin with. The only exception for this would be a last stand defensive action. You can't just go out looking for a fight and expect to win. You have to have an idea of what tactical doctrine your ship is best with before committing to a battle. Warships that exclusively have energy weapons are better for long-term defense and general use because of their greater endurance. Warships using kinetics have a better chance of being useful in ambushes or assaults on heavily fortified enemy locations intended to capture the location. IIRC the shatter gun is tractor beam tech repurposed to launch projectiles, meaning they have the ability to launch anything including the crew's hats at deadly speeds, so they can steal wreckage from destroyed enemy ships to launch at the next target.

You know, I think it might actually be a skill to be able to make dogfights in space boring. Seriously though, what's the point of making an animated show if it's going to be less exciting than the live action stuff? Isn't the whole point of animation that one has total freedom to portray whatever they want, without having to worry about sets and props and expensive special effects?

That being said, it's time to take a walk through Disney's latest Star Wars offering and see what it's got going on.

I was just about to go to bed, so I don't have the energy to discuss this or anything else at length beyond making a post in the starship thread I intended to make almost a week ago before I got busy with other stuff, but this topic deserves its own thread. This thread is reserved for bitching about Rian Johnson. Kreia's philosophy is very interesting and totally irrelevant to this thread because normalfags don't have the patience or intellect necessary to even have an opinion on it, and it's more complicated and therefore gives more room for multiple views of an issue to have valid points than a piece of full-throated liberal propaganda can allow, which means it won't appear in Rian Johnson's movies.

That goes both ways, the fact that the Force is spiritual doesn't preclude you from examining it in exclusively conceptual ways. Perhaps it's "Head-Canon" but it seems to me there are three main interpretations of the Separatists:

1: Idiotic and foolish pawns of Darth Sideous. The various political and military assets that make up the so-called "Confederacy" are all either directly taking orders from the Sith lord, or are faithfully taking orders from those who do. They do this because they are either so well fooled, stupid or locked in place (via intrigue and subterfuge) that there is essentially no free will involved.

In this interpretation they are considered 100% controlled opposition. The leadership may hope for victory, but only insofar as they are led to by their lord, they have absolutely no goals or priorities other than doing what he says. Pure puppetry with and and all sympathetic elements being wholly fabricated in order to garner more power for the war machine.

2: Misanthropic (((Business Interests))) who merely desire power and/or wealth. The top men listen to Sideous but do so because they believe it's the best way to get more power. They scour worlds for resources and harm everybody and anybody if it would increase their profits. They intend to win the war which will significantly boost their profit margins, as it will allow them even larger amounts of assets to utilize. Dooku is in this boat but doesn't want material wealth, but rather the power of the dark side of the force. Grievous may or may not be in this boat, he may just "Jedi Slime" enough to go along with all of this. This force of evil burns across the galaxy with the intent of reshaping it into a new kind of Empire, with the leadership of the CIS becoming the leadership of the galaxy. This is essentially how they are portrayed to the Republic and in the Disney show with the orange togruta.

In this interpretation the leadership is being fooled by Sideous but most people are basically just in it for more power and don't particularly care about winning or losing the greater war, just increasing their personal demesnes. This is also controlled opposition, obviously, though it's a more complicated machine since most gears and cogs aren't loyal in any way and need to be kept in line by giving them outlets for their sadism - which they gleefully accept.

I think the CIS is big enough to have types from all three categories making up its whole.

But the Sith are the good guys though.

 No.27113

The CIS were (overall) written very 2 dimensional, especially the little we see in the movies where they were portrayed as villainous yet inept. They have a lot of potential if people went through it to rewrite it. Even so, it gave us the Clone Wars animation, fun games, and more.

coruscant is the capital of the empire, that's understandable that they would have higher security and any runner-ups to claim the throne, as sheev kept his friends close and treated them well.

>Rogue One is the only good Disney Wars

It is. It's the same fanfic stuff the rest is, but doesn't go against source material and actually expands on the world as a whole. Unlike everything else Disney has done.

Luke got his ass handed to him at least twice in New Hope before he managed to destroy the Deah Star.

He trained in Empire Strikes back and Vader still kicked his ass

It was made quite clear Luke would be blasted into space dust if Han hadn't rescued him.

Theyre trying really hard to shill this new park of theirs. I dont see how it wont be shit with JJ and IRLRose at the helm; and with Retcon IX coming out relatively soon, I am afraid for the future of the franchise.

What should/can we do to save it from these cunts, anons?

They say the lines will be incredibly overcrowded and some lines may even take days to move which is why they've made bathroom passes. That sounds like something people could use to cut in line.

>it'll be a 2 hour line per ride

Not outside of opening weekend or major holidays where their parks are packed regardless they won't be. They'd have to have not ruined it for this to be the case.

 No.33507

Do you know how incredibly easy it would be to make a Star wars theme park? The rides are secondary to just having the locations there. Build the cantine for people to get drinks in and include a few anamatronic aliens in the corner. Build the Falcon's cockpit for people to see. You could even just build the Falcon like Bandai did the Gundam in Japan. Have it blow smoke and the ramp go up and down for people to watch twice a night. Maybe make some storm troopers run up it and a guy dressed as Chewbacca pretend to shoot a few.

Rides could just be 3D at this point. 3D screen or VR headset and moving chairs and you pack guests in to a giant cinema. Get some pleb CGI artists to redo the start of episode 3, the trench run and maybe the start of episode 7 and you've got a damn ride lasting a few minutes hitting all the high notes. Every 6-12 months cycle one out for another, like the return of the jedi speeder chase.

You don't need actual rides to sit inside a space ship. We have the tech to go way beyond that now and give a more authentic experience. They can even make the VR helmets be X wing pilot helmets.

I would say the park will fail but who's going to Disneyland but pedos and soy boys at this point? Disney have fucked everything people love so hard they have nothing left.

 No.33513

>>33507

All they really had to do was build a large version of the cantina or Jabba's palace with an almost identical cantina in it. It would've been smaller and more economic and would require no rides, yet people would flock to that shit, instead they make a park that has nothing to do with any of the movies or expanded media.

You underestimate the power of the soy side of the force. Harry Potter World, the only equivalent to this that I can think of within the Disney parks, is still one of their most popular attractions and pulls huge crowds every day.
